Track Suit? No Flight For You!

An executive with Best Buy claims a United Airlines gate agent refused to allow him to take a first-class seat because he was wearing a track suit, reports FOX 5 News of Washington. Armando Alvarez, a corporate executive with electronics retailer Best Buy, says he used miles to upgrade to first class on his Monday flight from Washington Dulles to Connecticut (presumably Hartford).

That's got to suck.  I would be humiliated and pissed so much at the same time.  I personally don't think that they had any right to do that to him.

Meteor Shower Tonight!

Every year Earth passes through trails left from Halley's comet which causes an extraordinary meteor shower.  Its occurring tonight through tomorrow early tomorrow morning.
The best time to watch the shower is around 1:00am to early dawn tomorrow (Wednesday) morning.
"Flakes of comet dust hitting the atmosphere should give us dozens of meteors per hour," said Bill Cooke of NASA's Meteoroid Environment Office.
Peak activity, when Earth wades into the densest part of the debris, is expected around 6 a.m. ET (3 a.m. PT).
Meteors could appear anywhere in the sky, though traced back they will appear to emanate from the constellation Orion.
Prior to 2006 and going back many years, the Orionids have produced a reliable 15 to 20 meteors per hour at the peak, for skywatchers with dark skies
As a bonus, this time of year you can expect an additional five to 10 sporadic meteors per hour – those not related to the shower.
I'm excited!  I know I will be out there tonight!

UFO...cloud?

This bizarre halo cloud photo was taken from a cell phone in Moscow just a few days ago.  It's gotta be the weirdest cloud I have ever seen.  Some people are calling it a UFO, but its obviously a cloud.  It's just really strange and it makes you wonder what would cause a cloud to look like that?
An official spokesperson for Moscow's weather department said, "Several fronts have been passing through Moscow recently, there was an intrusion of the Arctic air too, the sun was shining from the west — this is how the effect was produced."
Still, that seems like a decent explanation, but can it be the only explanation?
Kind of reminds me of the Goatse Cloud.  Hahaha.

Anyway, overall I think the whole thing is just... interesting.  It's a crazy looking cloud, and thats all I can say about that.  ;)
Also, here the video clip that goes along with the first picture of the cloud.

Wow. Never Even Made It To The Balloon

Ok.  So the boy is ok.  CNN just released that the boy was found.  He did release the balloon however he never made it inside the balloon.  He was scared, he did in fact climb into a box, but it was a box that he hid in inside the attic.  I can't stop laughing.  I'm glad he ok, I am.  But this is too darn funny!
Poor kid.  I know his parents will be pissed.  Oh well.
Atleast there was a happy ending.  That's what everyone really wants anyway, right?

Looks Like He Got... Carried Away...

Earlier today out in Colorado a 6 year old boy decided to get inside a box attached to a weather balloon made by his parents.  Obviously his parents had no idea this was taking place.  The balloon took off and was in air for over 2 hours and traveled over 50 miles.  All news stations followed the balloon the entire time worried to death for this little boy.  Well, the balloon finally landed and the boy was no where to be found. After watching some of the video more closely they discovered that they found something drop off of the balloon and one point.  Was it the boy?  Probably.  Investigators are currently searching the area where they believe the boy could have landed.
Is it awful that I find this kind of humorous?  Don't get me wrong, I feel bad for his parents and his family, and I surely would never wish harm on any child, but I can't help but giggle at this.  Here we are, watching this balloon for a couple of hours, can't even do anything about it... then it lands... so much anticipation, and the boy isn't even there!
What makes it worse is the fact that the 6 year olds brothers were on their roof video taping it and talking about it.  (Atleast that is what their neighbor reported)
Just because I think its funny, I do hope the boy is ok.  I really do.

If you missed it, check out this video.

Also, my boyfriend found this comic.  I found this funny.  Again, I'm sorry that I find this hilarious.  I have a sick sense of humor I guess.

I will post another update for if and when they find the boy.

Windows 7

Windows 7 is coming out on the 22nd.
If your a geek (like me) you are probably very excited about this!
All the things that are terrible about Vista are supposed to fixed in 7.  If you have Vista, this is something you really might want to upgrade to.
Windows 7 introduces real advances in organizing your programs and files, arranging your taskbar and desktop, and quickly viewing and launching the page or document you want, when you want it. It also has cool built-in touch-screen features.
In Windows 7, the familiar taskbar has been reinvented and made taller. Instead of mainly being a place where icons of open windows temporarily appear, it now is a place where you can permanently "pin" the icons of frequently used programs anywhere along its length, and in any arrangement you choose. This is a concept borrowed from Apple's similar feature, the Dock. But Windows 7 takes the concept further.
For each running program, hovering over its taskbar icon pops up a small preview screen showing a mini-view of that program. This preview idea was in Vista. But, in Windows 7, it has been expanded in several ways. Now, every open window in that program is included separately in the preview. If you mouse over a window in the preview screen, it appears at full size on your desktop and all other windows on the desktop become transparent -- part of a feature called Aero Peek. Click on the window and it comes up, ready for use. You can even close windows from these previews, or play media in them.
A feature called Snap allows you to expand windows to full-screen size by just dragging them to the top of the screen, or to half-screen size by dragging them to the left or right edges of the screen. Another called Shake allows you to make all other windows but the one you're working on disappear by simply grabbing its title bar with the mouse and shaking it several times.
n Windows Explorer, the left-hand column now includes a feature called Libraries. Each library -- Documents, Music, Pictures and Videos -- consolidates all files of those types regardless of which folder, or even which hard disk, they live in.
In the name of security, Vista put up nagging warnings about a wide variety of tasks, driving people crazy. In Windows 7, you can now set this system so it nags you only when things are happening that you consider really worth the nag. Also, Microsoft has consolidated most of the alerts from the lower-right system tray into one icon, and they seemed less frequent.
Windows 7 is also supposed to be much faster, and ultimately way more reliable.  Its more user friendly, and I recommend everyone to get the upgrade!

Twitter Cost Him His Job

Hollywood waiter is claiming an encounter with "Hung" star Jane Adams cost him his job at a popular eatery.
Jon-Barrett Ingels, 31, claims Adams, who plays Tanya on the HBO series, visited celeb hot spot Barney Greengrass (the cafe on the fifth floor of Barneys New York in Beverly Hills) in July and "skipped out on a $13.44 check," he posted on his Twitter page earlier this summer.
He said that she claimed she left her wallet in her car when he brought her the check, he allowed her to go get it, and she straight up bounced.  Later that afternoon, however, her agent did call to pay the bill but did not leave a tip.  That's where it all started.
He vented about it on his twitter page (which is not set to private) and his employment ended up seeing it.  They fired him for it.  They don't want there restaurant to be looked bad on among celebrities, especially because they get celebrities in there on a pretty frequent basis.  Ingels claims had his management asked him to simply delete the account or set it to private he would have been glad to do so, but they didn't give him the chance.
Oh well, there is the stupid thing to get fired over for today!  Haha.

Homeless Doll.

Make sure you watch this video first before you read what I write, otherwise it won't make sense.

I actually think that its a pretty cool concept especially because it IS an American Girl doll.  One thing about that brand of dolls is that they all have a "back story" and are supposed to come from all walks of life.  I think its a good tool for young girls to see that they aren't alone with their day to day struggles, and give you hope to over come it.  Some of the things they talk about in her back story are things that happen to tons of people on a day to day basis.  However, I think it is ridiculous to charge $95 for one doll.  I don't think its ridiculous because of the homeless back story, I think paying $95 for any type of doll would be ridiculous.  I also don't think that the company should have to donate proceeds to any type of charity.  That should be done at their own discretion.  Do they have to donate to charities for every other type of doll they sell too?  That wouldn't make sense.  I don't think it should be a big controversy like it is, especially when Mattel has been charging outrages prices for the American Girl dolls all this time.
People like controversy, and they will always try to make controversy out of everything.  Yay, America.
I think the dolls story is a good thing, and I hope they make more realistic ones like it in the future.

~Erica

Thank You, Lewis Black.

Agreed.  America really does have a problem getting too involved in the lives of people that they consider to be of a celebrity status.  Yeah, its interesting at times, but really... let it be.  It does not affect you personally, and it has nothing to do with you, so leave it alone.

Message In A Bottle

This has got to be the saddest thing I have read all day.  For the last 6 years or so this lady put a message in a bottle on her birthday and send it out by the lighthouse that she worked at on Thatcher Island (NY) and always hoped that somebody would find it and get in contact with her.
Someone did finally find her bottle which had traveled 3,200 miles since 2003.  It was found by a couple in France.  They were so excited about finding it, they sent her a postcard to the address she had left in the bottle, but the letter got sent back to them as undeliverable.  They called the lighthouse place to ask about her, but they told them that she had passed away.  She was 61 years old.  Her boyfriend said that she had always hoped that someone would find one of her bottles, and it was so that she didn't live to see that wish.
This just got me.  So sad, but so cool at the same time.

Lady Gaga (Before she was famous)

Yahoo has an article and a video clip of Lady Gaga way back when.  Before the weird hair, crazy outfits, and everything else about her that just doesn't really seem to make sense.  I'm all about being different, so in a way I kind of respect her for who she is and how she acts, but at the same time, even I can say that some of it is just too much.  However, this video that they featured of her really kind of intrigued me.  She is... normal.  Dark hair, music sounded good, and she was rocking out on the piano.  It kind of made me wish that this style of music, and her style of herself were the same now.  I think she would have more fans if she were like how she used to be before she got famous.  Maybe this is just what she needed to do to get famous though.  Who knows?  Anyway, check out the video, let me know what you think.

Stereotypes

This is something that came up today, so I decided that I am going to bring this up.
Is it ok to base political views based on your race?  I guess maybe there is some truth to some stereotypes, but I am not sure that they are all fair to say.
Today for example, I did a friend fact on facebook.  The majority of my friends result showed up as Republican.  I thought it was kind of strange because the majority of my friends who I speak to on a regular basis are Democrats.  My boyfriend said its because the majority of my friends are white.  Until he said that, I didn't even realize that the majority were white.  To prove it he did a count of my facebook friends.  Out of 314 friends, 57 of them were not white.  That comes to about 18% of my friends not being white.  My boyfriend is not white, and I really never pay attention to things like that, so it kind of came to a shock to me.  Anyway, I really want to investigate his theory some more, so I am going to have a kind of mini experiment and see what I find out.
Please leave me a comment on here saying your race and your political affiliation.  I don't judge anybody based on race or political views.  I am very open minded, and I am only doing this to see how far this stereotypical statement goes.  I'm also going to post something similar on my facebook and twitter account.  In about a week I will post what I found out.
Thanks!

Water... on the moon!?

Recently a space probe was sent to the moon, and they discovered that there is small amounts of water on the moon.  I'm not talking rivers, lakes, or streams, but there was some water discovered.  They found it in the moon dirt.  Its such a small amount of water that say you had a 2-liter bottle, filled it with dirt, it would maybe have just a little drop of water, enough for a medicine dropper.  If you wanted a whole drink of water, you would need about the size of a baseball field of moon dirt to get that much water.  It doesn't mean much right now, because that's still not enough water to support life, however, once they figure out where the water is coming from it could serve as good resource to us in the future, such as drinking water.

They have a few theories about where the water is coming from, such as frozen over comets crashing into it or the solar wind carries hydrogen atoms that binds with oxygen in the dirt.

I'm very excited to see what develops from this new discovery, and I hope that we will be able to soon use this as a resource!

Yay! Sleep!

Being in college only adds on stress to day to day life, and its really started to take a toll on my sleeping habits.  If you want to have a successful day, you better make sure you get plenty of sleep!  Then there is always the large group of people who no matter what, even when we want to sleep can not.  I decided to do some research to see if there were any good non medical remedies to help people sleep better, and I actually found some really useful information.
Usually people say to not sleep before you go to bed, that it will either keep you awake or it will cause you to gain weight.  However, here are some good choices to make that can actually help you get some sleep.

1.  Non Fat Popcorn.
2.  Oatmeal With Banana Slices.
3.  Plain Yogurt With Mixed Nuts
4.  Handful of Pretzels
5.  Glass Of Wine
6.  Red Bell Peppers

What most of these things all have in common is that they all have chemicals and ingredients in them that when reacted with your system create stress relievers and it makes it much easier to fall asleep.

Also be sure to work out on a regular basis.  Not only will it help you sleep better, it promotes good health!

If you are like me and you don't always make the healthiest food choices, be sure and keep up with taking vitamins or other types of supplements.  Some good ones to help you sleep related are calcium and magnesium.

If you like things that smell good get some lavender oil and put it on your pillows.  You can even go to bath and body works and they have a whole collection or aroma therapy scents (candles, pillow sprays, lotions, etc) specifically designed to help you sleep.

I hope this blog post has been helpful!  There are many other remedies to help with sleep, and you can check them out by clicking these links below!

Addicted To The Internet? You Might Need Rehab...

The other week the first internet addiction center opened in the U.S.  This is something thats already been going on in other countries such as China, South Korea, and Taiwan.
Internet addiction is not recognized as a separate disorder by the American Psychiatric Association, and treatment is not generally covered by insurance.
Basically if you find yourself several times a day getting on facebook, ebay, myspace, online games, etc, and feel as though you can't go on with your day to day life, you might have an addiction.  Maybe I should check this place out?  Haha.  Funny part is that it is located right near Microsoft Headquarters.  It's like having a rehabilitation center for a junkie right next to a meth lab!!  I think its hilarious and rediculous!
On the other side of it, if it does get to the point that it causes you to lose your job, flunk out of school, lose touch with all friends, family, and loved ones, you really do have a problem.  Guess we will all have to wait and see how these new "treatment" centers play out.

September 11th, 2001

I was going to write a blog talking about the September 11th attacks, but I really decided not to.  Instead I'm just going to write about my feelings and recollections from that day.
We all know what happened on this day 8 years ago,  and most of us all probably remember where we were and what we were doing.  I was in the 9th grade at Ashbrook Highschool and I had just walked into my homeroom class where the tv was on the news covering the event.  It was early in the morning shortly after the first plane crash.  I've never seen or hears a group of students so still and quiet.  I remember watching as the second plane crashed.  I remember thinking, how can something like this be happening here?...right now?  The buildings fell.... then the crash at the Pentagon...  I remember being scared, not knowing what was going to happen next.  That whole school day was horrible.  Every classroom was at a halt only watching the news.  My worst memory of the event was watching people jumping out of the building, only to fall to their deaths.
It's a scary world out there.  You never know what could happen, and you should try to treat everyday like there won't be a tomorrow.  So many people get caught up with little things in their day to day lives, and sometimes it takes events like this to really remember to appreciate life.
My heart goes out to all the family members who lost loved ones on this day.

Happy 09/09/09!

It's going to be a hundred years till anyone sees those numbers in sequence like that again.  Looked up some stuff since today alot of people are talking about numerology and astrology.  Found out some cool stuff about the number 9.
The number 9 relates to a balanced numerological personality and is most often associated with tolerance, generosity, forgiveness, passion, creative energy, success, romance, benevolence, and a deep love of life.  9 is also said to be one of the most spiritual numbers.
Also away from mystics of the number there are some pretty cool math related things.  Such as that discovered from Pythagoras.  Example: The sum of the two-digits resulting from nine multiplied by any other single-digit number will equal nine. So 9x3=27, and 2+7=9.  Multiply nine by any two, three or four-digit number and the sums of those will also break down to nine. For example: 9x62 = 558; 5+5+8=18; 1+8=9
Sept. 9 also happens to be the 252nd day of the year (2 + 5 +2)...  interesting....  ;)
Do all these numbers really mean something?  I don't know, maybe they do, maybe the don't.  I find it humorous how so many companies, business', and media use it to their advantage.  New music release dates, discounted shopping with one day only sales, etc.
Do what you gotta do I guess.  I'm just going to enjoy the day, and hope everyone else does the same.

40 New Species! Amazing!

A team of scientists from Britain, Hawaii, and Papua New Guinea found more than 40 previously unidentified species when they climbed into the kilometre-deep crater of Mount Bosavi and explored a pristine jungle habitat teeming with life that has evolved in isolation since the volcano last erupted 200,000 years ago.
They found several new species of frogs, birds, a giant rat, insects, and many other things.
One weird thing was that this wooley rat, when they discovered it had no fear of humans.  Just imagine, all these other species out here, unknowingly existing to us, what else could be out there!?
This spider is camouflaged to look like a type of moss.

$3 Million Dollar Failure

Reading yahoo news today there was a feature on a girl named Callie Rogers (from the U.K.) who had won $3 million dollars in the lottery when she was 16 years old.  This all took place 6 years ago.  She wasted all her money on drugs, partying, fake boobs, and designer clothes.  She is down to $32,000.  Its so aggravating to hear stories like this especially when the majority of the world is struggling so hard.  These economic times are horrible, and then some 16yr old girl goes and wastes $3 million dollars.  I'm assuming laws are much different in the U.K., because here in the USA you have to be 18.  She was too young and too stupid and she shouldn't even have been allowed to get all the money in the first place.  The part where I guess you are supposed to feel bad for her is when she says she wishes she would have never bought a ticket in the first place.  Aw.  Do I feel bad?  Hell no.  The only thing I feel bad about is that all that money was wasted when someone more deserving could have put it to good use, instead of a child.

Here is the link to the article if you would like to read more about it.  It also has her picture.

Micheal Jackson: Dead or Alive?

So, recently I've heard speculation that Micheal Jackson is rumored to not be dead.  I'm not too sure about all this propaganda.  I even heard someone say that it was all staged so well to the point that the children at the funeral were in fact not his children at all, just paid actors.  If this is true, which I'm pretty sure it is not, that's just sick.  Sick, sick, sick.  Its like, look back at the Elvis situation, and the "sightings" of him.  Are we going to do the same thing about M.J.?  Gosh I hope not.  Anyway, here are some links to videos that you can check out as well.  The first video could have very well been stage, but I don't know.  Everyone is entitled to their own opinions.

Killer Blinds? Or don't leave your children unattended...

Found an article on yahoo talking about the newest huge recall.  Window blinds.  Why?  Because children get strangled and die in the cords that hang from them.   I probably should have found something else to blog about.  Everything in your home is potentially hazardous to a child, and children can get killed by some things that you would never expect.  They claim that there is a manufacturers defect, but really, if its a defect aren't all blinds defective?  6 Major companies including Ikea, Target, and Pottery Barn kids are all part of the recall.  One of the people that they talked to even said that parents need to inspect the blinds and make sure they aren't defective so that they can return them and send them new blinds with a "release clip" that will solve the defect.  One of the claims of a child dying because of them date back as far as 2006 and 2007.  Something happened recently so now they are making it a huge recall.
Maybe this is necessary?  I'm sure its just to make moms feel a whole lot better.  While you are at it make sure you pull out all the strings on your hoodies... I would hate for you to choke to death... cause I hear those are being recalled in some department stores as well. Oh well.  Here is the article... tell me if you think I am wrong.  :)

Revamping this blog

As part of my broadcasting classes it's required for all students to have a blog.  I'm actually pretty excited about this, especially since I already have 2 different blogs.  I haven't kept up this one as much because I was too focused on my other one.  In this one I will be discussing things like current events, my opinions, and just about anything else that I feel is important to talk about.  I'm either going to post again later tonight or sometime tomorrow.

Enjoy!

It takes 1 person to make a difference, and it takes even more people to make a HUGE difference. I hope more people get inspired to do some good for the environment, it will make you feel good yourself!

Deal or No Deal

Just do us all a favor... Take the freakin deal! Uggghhh.

My back. :(

So yesterday I hurt my back, and today I feel like I am halfway paralyzed. Ugh. I'm laying in bed typing trying to figure out why I am even taking the time and effort to do this. I guess I am that bored. Anyway, I haven't posted a blog in a while so I figured there were a few things I wanted to talk about and update people with. Some of you may know, and alot of you may not, that my poppop (grandfather) passed away almost 2 weeks ago. I'm sorry that I really didn't properly notify anyone to let them know, but I did post in on facebook, I just really did not have the time or energy to call and tell people. Sorry about that, I know a couple of people were pissed at me about that.
On a different subject I am trying to put some money to the side so that I can redo my vinyl on my car. My hood stripe which is gold has alot of weather damage to the point that you really can't tell its supposed to gold. I decided I am going to get the hood stripe, the rocker stripe, and the back lettering removed (which are all vinyl) and redo them all myself. I was going to just redo the hood and mmake it gold again (because it matches the rest of my customizations) but I think the black vinyl is less subject to weathering, so I am going to make all my details in black. I even want to do the blackout featuer on the bumper and trunk area. I think that would look pretty badass. Let me know what you think, if you think it will look good or not. ;) Appreciate it.
Also, I am in the process of selling alot of things. Mostly clothes, and miscellaneous items... going to be putting them on craigslist. So if you need clothes that you would like to buy, let me know. I have tons and tons of name brand clothes that I hardly ever wore, maybe once or twice, that I know I will never wear again..... lots of sweaters, shirts, pants... you get the drift. You can comment me here, or anywhere else that I can usually be contacted.
Thanks!!
Much love. <3

Crackberry.

So... yesterday I unknowingly dropped my crackberry in a puddle. I'm approximating that it soaked in there for probably a good 10 minutes. At first it didn't work at all. Now it kinda works, but sometimes the buttons do functions that they are not intended to do, and the screen is warped with moisture. Jon said that if I put it in a bowl of rice and bury it for a few days it will absorb all the moisture and phone should be back to normal.
In the mean time, I have been going CRAZY not being able to do all the things I am usually able to do with my phone... mostly using twitterberry. (Sad, I know). If anyone knows anything different I could possibly do if that doesn't work let me know. Or better yet, if anyone knows where I can get a cheap blackberry let me know about that as well.
Thanks in advance!

My First Blog!

So, much like the heading says, this is my first blog. Woot. Basically what I am wanting to do with this blog is to update it every few days or so.
It occurred to me that I constantly have crazy wierd shit happen to me, and I don't always have a way to let everyone know of my crazy happenings, or a way for me to go back to look at it and laugh. So yeah.... read it if you would like to... if not, it won't hurt my feelings. Lol. And if anyone else thinks there is something of particular interest I should post... Let me know!
